Honors Alumni Newsletter 2012

Dr. Thomas W. Smith

A Letter from the Director

Dear Honors Alumni and Friends of the Honors Program,

Welcome to our first Honors Alumni Newsletter!  I’m delighted to bring you up to date on all the changes that have taken place in Honors over the last year or so.  Villanova is an exciting place, and as always, Honors is at the center of our dynamic and stimulating community.

We’re also working to make sure we reach out to the Honors Alumni community.  The distinguished alumni of Honors have paved the way for our current group of excellent students, and part of what we would like to achieve over the next months and years is to reconnect our alums with Honors and with our students.  We also want Honors to become a resource for our alumni to remain engaged in the intellectual life.  In the fall we held a wonderful ‘Philosophy on Tap’ event for Alumni returning to campus for homecoming weekend.  Thanks to Dr. David Schindler for leading our discussion of technology and human freedom.  This spring we hope to host an Honors Alumni event during Reunion Weekend as well.  Please take a few moments to look at and respond to this poll so we have a sense of what you would like to see happen.  In the newsletter you will also find Dr. Anna Moreland’s recommendations for a few good books to read in the coming months.  Please take some time to join the Villanova University Honors Program Alumni LinkedIn group as well.

I’m grateful to all the people who helped bring this newsletter to life, especially our student editors, Nina Rizk and Alex Andreassen who wrote all the copy, and to Cayce Lista, our Program Assistant, who put the whole thing together.  Working with our students is always a joy and a delight and is one of the many things I love about this position.

I look forward to meeting and reconnecting with you at our upcoming events.  I hope this finds you and your families well and that your New Year is off to a wonderful start.

Sincerely,

file
