Honors Alumni Newsletter 2013

Thomas W. Smith

A Letter from the Director

Dear Honors Alum,

Welcome to our second Honors Alumni Newsletter.

Honors has seen many exciting changes over the last year, including a new Honors dorm for freshmen, new learning communities (some of which are tied to international studies), and a new Associate Director. Also, through the generosity of Anne Welsh NcNulty, an Honors Alum, we received an endowment that allowed us to create endowed faculty positions in Honors.  More information about this program and Drs. McCarraher and Newbert, the first faculty to hold these positions, can be found inside. These faculty have also provided you with their recommended reading choices for this Newsletter issue.

Other aspects of Honors continue much as you remember them, such as the Senior Thesis. We've highlighted some of this year's thesis writers, and we welcome you to attend their thesis defenses in late April. We also held another successful Early Action event, allowing students invited to Honors to learn about this Program long before they make their college decision.

Since this newsletter is intended for our alumni, we have highlighted one of your peers, Ryan Costella, in our first Alumni Spotlight. We will feature alumni in this section in each newsletter. If you know an Honors alum that should be featured, just contact us.

We have also worked to create new ways for Honors Alumni to get more involved in our community, including an Honors event during Homecoming Weekend, an Alumni Mentor Directory that invites current students to connect with Honors graduates, and an Honors Alumni LinkedIn page.  We hope you will take advantage of these opportunities to connect with friends from your Villanova days as well as our current students.
